Shutters for Living Rooms
The room guests remember
The sitting room is where shutters earn their keep: soft, adjustable light through the day, privacy from the street in the evening, and a finished look that curtains rarely manage. They read as part of the architecture rather than something hung in front of it.

What this room asks
Three things we consider before we measure.
Light you can direct
Tilt the louvres to bounce daylight onto the ceiling and away from screens and faces.
Evening privacy
Close the lower half against the street while the room stays open and airy above.
A permanent finish
Shutters become part of the joinery of the house — a detail buyers and guests notice.

Questions
Common questions
Do shutters darken a north-facing living room?
Far less than curtains. Open the louvres fully and most of the glass is clear; folded back, the panels barely intrude at all.
Can I have shutters with a radiator under the window?
Yes. Shutters sit inside or just outside the recess, clear of the radiator, and help keep warmth in the room at night.
